I AM: Christian Ortega is from New York City.
Born in the borough of Manhattan in 1972. Grew up in the borough of Queens. Preferred subjects in school were Art, History, and English. Learned the ways of being a guerrilla pedestrian in 5th grade by crossing Queens Boulevard “of Death” on a daily basis. Developed a basic writing style in his mid-teens. Was encouraged by an English teacher freshman year of high school to keep a journal. By senior year, wrote a number of poems he’d show only those who bothered to care. Spent much time corrupting his young mind at the local library. And also staying up late to watch public television. A network favorite was “Alive From Off Center”.
After graduation, he was unable to attend the college of his choice. He endeavored to further his education by pursuing his own interests. Christian Ortega continued writing, even through the many years he labored in retail. Later on he studied poetry at The New School.
By the age of 34, Christian regards himself to be a veteran of four LTRs. He currently lives in the Hudson Valley.
